Haut Brion in Red and White

Nick Jackson, MW Consultant | July 6, 2021

Of the First Growths, Haut Brion is never the most flashy or strident, but ask a wine lover for their favourite First, and you will often find them reverting to it.  The layers of velvety fruit and cigar smoke aromas have a particularly enticing allure.  The 2008, 2012 and 2014 vintages already offer a lot of pleasure, and the 1995 is one of the wines of that excellent vintage.

If your budget doesn’t quite run to Haut Brion itself, the second wine, Clarence, offers more than a hint of the grand vin, and the 6L bottle of 2014 looks remarkably good value for a dinner party.

Finally, Clarté, the second white wine (shared with La Mission Haut Brion) is a stunning wine for summer; packed full of intense, zesty fruit with a lingering finish.  The range of formats available gives you plenty of options!
