5 Classic Wines for Weeknight Enjoyment

Savart – Lynch Bages Blanc - Hudelot-Noellat Haut Bailly – Faiveley - Sassicaia

If it excites you to have a well-stocked pantry for whipping up home-cooked meals, the same might go for keeping a range of wines at the ready for weeknight dinners or last-minute gifts. Here are five bottles to have on hand when life calls for wine.

An Aperitif Rosé
In the transition from workday to evening, there’s often room for a glass of wine while preparing dinner. I use that opportunity to lift my spirits with a bubbly rosé, like Savart’s Bulle de Rosé which is vinified from organically farmed, premier cru vineyard grapes. The wine evokes delicate red fruits that are more tart in character than sweet.NV Savart: Bulle de Rose 750ml $79.95

The Nimble White

It took me a while to come around to the flavors of white Bordeaux. I kept giving the wines a chance because these blends vary not just with the percentage of each variety, but the level of oak and terroir influence. My current favorite is 2016 Blanc de Lynch Bages, which balances a sumptuously rich bouquet of lime leaf, white stone fruit, and fragrant blossoms with a precise line of acidity that evens out heaviness often associated with the appellation. It pairs well with cheeses, seafood, poultry, and much more. 2016 Blanc de Lynch Bages, Bordeaux 750ml $59.95
