Why 2012 & 2014 Bordeaux Are Worth Drinking Now

Moderately Priced & Delicious!

By Graham Tucker | February 14, 2019

The more Bordeaux I drink from 2012 and 2014, the more I have to come to appreciate these two rather forgotten vintages. These “in-between” vintages showcase the finer nuances and subtleties that make young Bordeaux so inherently enjoyable. The wines are usually mid-weight, fresh, aromatic, and supple — in a word, charming.

While it’s easy to default to iconic vintages like 2009, 2010, and 2015 in determining what to drink tonight, many of these wines have not reached their appropriate drinking window.

That’s why I highly recommend red Bordeaux from 2012 and 2014 — the wines are elegant, moderately priced, and most importantly, approachable and delicious in their youth. Below are highlights from these vintages in a variety of formats which are ready to drink now.

Pauillac de Latour, Pauillac
In Stock (7 Available) SEE MORE SIZES

Pauillac is a brilliant third element to Frederic Engerer`s team at Chateau Latour - a selection finalized after the completion of both the Grand Vin and Les Forts de Latour. This is a wonderful introduction to the legendary Chateau, its terroir and the extraordinary professionalism and skill of the team making these impressive wines.

THE WINE
Very classically styled with potential for ageing in its own right, and a staple of Latour`s production since 1990, Pauillac is genetically more a second wine to the Les Forts de Latour than a third wine. The blends of the two wines consist of a greater percentage of Merlot than Latour, allowing for a softer, rounded texture, and earlier drinking with the Pauillac including both young vines and the press wine.
