2008 Calon-Segur: A Pleasure to Drink

Exceptional Quality x Value

Overlooked initially (and perhaps still to this day), the 2008 Bordeaux vintage can offer surprising quality - especially from the top producers, who embraced the more moderate temperatures, the wines are a real pleasure to drink. One of the best wines from the vintage is undeniably Chateau Calon-Segur. An estate we have long admired for their pedigree and commitment to producing wines of excellent typicity and longevity.

Their 2008 is a classic and displays many of the characteristics traditional Bordeaux consumers strive for – structured and forward, yet supple and aromatic. While typical in that respect, the wine stands out with its higher percentage of Cabernet (~80%), delivering a blend that is richer and of a greater length than most 2008s I have tasted. While the fruit is still there after more than a decade, it is the generosity combined with exotic, spicy and herbal notes that makes the wine so captivating.

And,the price of $155 is more than fair, if not underpriced compared to other Medoc-wines of similar ilk and exceptionality. Only five cases available.
