Estimated Shipping Rates
Estimated shipping rates are provided at checkout based on shipping address, shipping method, number of bottles/cases and their respective weights.  We will send you an order confirmation which includes actual shipping charges and shipment tracking number.  All orders for delivery outside of Manhattan will be repacked in shipping containers to protect your wines while in transit.  Our shipping rates include the cost of packing materials. We offer the following shipping methods:

•  FedEx Ground: Typically arrives in 1 to 5 business days,  Monday thru Friday depending on distance.  
•  FedEx Home Delivery: Same as FedEx Ground, but specifically for residential addresses; including Saturday delivery
•  FedEx 2Day: Delivery by 4:30pm in 2 business days to business addresses, and by 7pm to residences.
•  FedEx Standard Overnight: Next-business-day delivery by 3pm to most U.S. addresses; by 4:30pm to rural areas.
•  FedEx Priority Overnight: Next-business-day delivery by 10:30am to most U.S. addresses; by noon, 4:30pm, or 5pm in rural areas; 1:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.

Manhattan

Sotheby's Wine provides free delivery in Manhattan for all purchases of $200 or more.  Orders for delivery in Manhattan will generally be processed and delivered the following business day.  Special delivery instructions should be made when placing your order.

Orders under $200 will be charged a flat fee of $25 per delivery address.

In-Store Collection

Clients may collect wines from our retail store: please select “Store Collect” at checkout. Orders will generally be available for pickup the following business day.  Please specify date of collection at checkout. Orders must be collected within 48 hours of specified collection date with no exceptions, after which time the wines will be transferred to our warehouse and we reserve the right to assess a $50 transfer fee, or cancel the order at our discretion.

New York State

For all delivery addresses within New York State, outside Manhattan, Sotheby's Wine offers shipping via FedEx, and shipping charges are applied at the time of purchase.

Legal age requirement
Wines and other alcoholic beverages may be sold and delivered only to persons over the age of 21. By ordering from this website, you affirm that you are at least 21 years old.  All first time purchasers will be asked to provide a copy of a valid form of identification to be faxed or emailed to us for our records.  All alcoholic beverages that we ship on your behalf must be received and signed for by an adult 21 years old. If the wine is returned to us for failure to provide positive proof of age, the client is responsible for paying all related shipping charges.

Interstate shipping
Sotheby's Wine does not provide interstate shipping services.  If you wish your purchase to be shipped, Sotheby's Wine will contract with a third party carrier to ship your purchase.  By requesting that your purchase be shipped, you authorize Sotheby's Wine to engage a common carrier to deliver your wine on your behalf.  Please be advised that most states regulate the shipment of wine into their state.  We urge you to investigate your state’s regulations before purchasing wine from the Site. Sotheby's Wine makes no representation to the legal rights of anyone to ship or import alcoholic beverages into any state. Sotheby's Wine is unable to ship wine to: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia, and our website will not accept orders with shipping addresses to these states.  Buyers from these states must either ship to an address in another state, or collect their wines from our store, in which case New York Sales Tax is applicable. 

All purchases, including shipping, tax, and any additional charges must be paid for in full prior to delivery.  Our acknowledgment of an order is not a guarantee that we will ultimately be able to ship wine to you. If we are unable to ship wine to the state you request, we will notify you.

Insurance
Insurance is charged at a rate of 1.5% of purchase price for all domestic shipments, and covers any loss due to breakage or theft that may occur while your order is in the possession of a common carrier. It does not cover damage resulting from extreme hot or cold temperatures during transit.
If you opt to decline coverage this releases Sotheby's Wine of all liability associated with breakage or loss that may occur to your order during shipment.
If you have opted for insurance coverage and you receive purchased property that has been broken during transit, you must notify Sotheby's Wine  in writing within three days of the delivery of the property.  In the event of non-arrival, you must inform Sotheby's Wine in writing within three days of expected delivery so that we may process your claim. 

Sales Tax For New York State    
New York sales tax is charged on all purchases picked up or delivered in New York State, regardless of the state or country in which the purchaser resides or does business, unless Sotheby's Wine has been given, in advance of the release of the property, a valid exemption from taxes by the State of New York.  Orders shipped to states outside New York are not subject to New York state sales tax, unless we are obligated to do so. The buyer is responsible for all applicable excise, use, and sales tax due to your state related to the purchase of any taxable goods.

New Hampshire
Sotheby's Wine is licensed to ship up to sixty bottles of wine per client address per year, and we are obliged to collect an 8% fee on all wine purchases shipped into the state of New Hampshire.

International Orders
We accept international orders, and can provide a quote for international shipping upon request. Please note that there may be additional duties, taxes, and tariffs based on your destination country. Contact us by phone or by email for more information.

Unfavorable Weather Conditions
Shipping fine and rare wine requires special care. Shipping during periods of extreme heat or cold can damage wine.  We encourage you to select FedEx Overnight or FedEx 2Day as your shipping method during the winter or summer months, in order to reduce the likelihood of weather-related damage to your wine. In winter and summer we generally do not ship Thursdays or Fridays, unless Thursday orders for overnight service, since carriers hold shipments over the weekends in their warehouses, where storage conditions may not be ideal. We will not ship your wine during times of extreme temperature at our warehouse location or your shipping address. Instead, your wine will be held at our temperature-controlled warehouse or at our store at no additional charge until the weather is suitable for shipping. During the summer or winter months, shipment of your wine may be delayed for several weeks or longer.  If you decide to ship your wine regardless of the weather, please contact us to authorize shipment.  We will provide you with a weather waiver to sign and return to us.  If you choose to ship during extreme weather conditions you assume all responsibility for possible weather-related damage.

Order Processing Time
Orders are generally processed and shipped the following business day, but there are occasions where shipments will be delayed.  Special shipping requests, i.e. rush orders, international shipping, shipment of original wood cases, etc., should be made by phone or email. 

Original Wooden Cases (owc)
If wines are packed in original wooden cases we will automatically ship them via FedEx Ground at the buyer’s expense.  If you do not want your owc’s shipped, please select “Do not ship wooden cases” at checkout.  Shipping costs vary according to shipping method, weight, and destination.
