The summer of 2003 was unprecedented. Temperatures throughout Europe pushed 100 degrees in a sustained heatwave. But the best properties managed not only to avoid these dangers but also to produce wines of unique intensity and power, with flamboyant fruit and aromatics. In addition, some of these wines have the attraction of being early maturing and so even some rather grand names are ready to drink now.

GRANGE DES PÈRES

Laurent Vaillé created the estate in 1989, with 1992 as his first vintage. From the poor limestone soils ideal for grape growing, the annual production is tiny — between 2,500-3,000 cases.
