La Conseillante is an object lesson in all things Pomerol. First, the property: the small building is situated just a few hundred yards from Evangile, and within a stone’s throw of Cheval Blanc. It’s firmly on the clay plateau — ideal for Merlot and the making of all great Pomerol. The production is very small by Bordeaux standards, but quite normal for Pomerol. As for the wines: succulent, juicy, deep and plummy, these are among Bordeaux’s most seductive and voluptuous. Rich and plush in youth, with age they develop great aromatic complexity while becoming softer and velvety.
