Charity Events
We are proud to support a number of different causes, in various different ways, throughout the year. Our wine auctioneers, Jamie Ritchie, Robert Sleigh and Eliza Osborne donate their time, advice and auctioneering skills to a diverse group of 501C3 charities and have helped raise millions of dollars at benefit auctions for art institutions, educational programs, health foundations and a variety of similar organizations.
A two day bonanza marks the 40th anniversary of Sotheby’s wine auctions in London. Topping the bill is a magnificent private cellar, the creation of an ardent collector, brimming with Bordeaux’s First Growths from the 1980s and 1990s. One of the star lots is a vertical of Château Mouton Rothschild from 1945 to 2003. Another collection focuses on Château Lafite from the best years – 1961, 1982, 1986, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2005 – and stunning vintage Champagne from the legendary houses of Dom Pérignon, Krug and Louis Roederer makes the celebration complete.
Autumn beckons the comfort of deep, complex red wines, so it is fitting that Sotheby’s first Fall sale in New York is highlighted by the reassuring warmth and depth of Pétrus. The sale will include a number of the Pomerol legend’s greatest vintages, such as 1961, 1982, 1998, and 2000. An impressive collection of Burgundies, such as Romanée Conti, Armand Rousseau, Georges de Vogüé and Georges Roumier, will also be available. This is a great opportunity to grab some rarities to enjoy while the season turns the page towards winter, or to hold on to for a little longer. Fall and winter will always be with us, but ’61 Pétrus is a much rarer pleasure.
Be sure to get your absentee bids in early, or join us for lunch and BYOB in our Upper East Side salesroom, or join us from the comfort of your couch by bidding live online - you have no excuse to miss this auction.
Texas real-estate developer, Marcus D. Hiles, has amassed a collection that is as encyclopedic as it is prestigious. From Domaine de Romanée Conti, to Lafite-Rothschild, to Krug; Hiles’ taste is as grand as his home-state. The auction is highlighted by the largest collection of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti ever offered in Hong Kong, in tandem with an arsenal of Bordeaux First Growths and fine Champagnes. All the wines in this auction are stars in their own right, but to have them all together is to define a dream collection.
As most people are familiar, our wine auctions are all-day events - be sure to reserve your spot by emailing Vincent Law at vincent.law@sothebys.com .
The superlatives are in danger of running dry with the sixth installment of this unparalleled collection. Already recognized as one of the greatest wine collections ever assembled, the next chapter in this odyssey stacks the chips even higher. And what better producer than Pétrus to raise the collective pulse of the wine world? Included in this offering are over 300 bottles, 40 magnums, and 10 imperials from the Right Bank dream factory. The depth of prestigious growths and formats continues on from there, and puts the collection—one that has already taken in over $26 million—into the realm of the nearly unbelievable.
